ECO:LOGIC

ECO:LOGIC, an Idaho National Laboratory initiative supported by Energy for Humanity, strives to find a way to meet the growing need for abundant energy to support and improve quality of life around the globe through innovation and technology. It focuses on meeting the need for energy while maintaining a balance between humans, technology and the environment.

In order to educate and provide material to promote this initiative, we were tasked with developing a suite of materials for ECO:LOGIC, including a highly visual, digital white paper, before and after scenarios of how technology has improved our way of life, social media graphics, videos, and a website to host all of these materials and provide an introduction to ECO:LOGIC.

The website was designed with the overarching goals of ECO:LOGIC in mind – the sustainable, thoughtful advancement of technology that is mindful of the limited resources of the Earth and importance of the quality of life for all looking forward into the future.

These concepts are depicted with big, beautiful visuals such as Earth from space and tech-styled illustrations with futuristic type, as well as more thought-provoking images and sliders, which impart the urgency of the questions posed by the initiative.

The majority of the materials created for ECO:LOGIC are hosted on the site, including before/after sliders, a digital white paper and social media graphics. Visit the site by clicking the preview above!

Digital White Paper

Energizing the Modern Age

Instead of doing a traditional white paper as a printed piece or digital PDF, we wanted to make it more interesting and engaging for the user. Using large-scale, full-size images, iconography, animation and video, we created an immersive experience that is enjoyable to interact with and encourages longer read times.

Explainer Videos

Meeting Our Energy Needs

As part of the introduction to the ECO:LOGIC way of thinking, we produced a number of videos featuring Kirsty Gogan, co-founder and executive director of Energy for Humanity, and Kemal Pasamehmetoglu, executive director of the Versatile Test Reactor at the Idaho National Laboratory, discussing the many ways energy has and will continue to improve quality of life, and how to meet the rising energy demands of a growing global population in a sustainable way. Each video was enhanced with small moving visualizations to accompany text to emphasize certain points of each conversation.

Data Visualization

Dynamically illustrating the link between energy consumption and global population growth, this video was originally built as a standalone design, edited down to make the information easier to consume, animated by a colleague, and eventually incorporated into the digital white paper.

As energy consumption and the global population continue to increase, it becomes increasingly important that society makes smart and informed energy choices focused on powering the future in a sustainable way.

Concept

We had the opportunity to build the ECO:LOGIC brand from scratch, incorporating that blend of technology and environment into everything. The logo, designed by a talented colleague, uses a thoughtful choice of font with a graphic element of the gear to denote tech.

We developed a bold, saturated color palette with indigo blue as the dominant color complemented by cobalt and lime green to reflect an Earth-forward look and feel, and introduced bright orange and yellows to denote urgency and to stand out against a darker background color.
