Honoring the Life and Legacy of Cokie Roberts: Records of Achievement Event

The Records of Achievement event is an annual tribute given by the National Archives Foundation, recognizing individuals who have made a significant impact upon the public’s understanding of the United States and its history. In 2019, Cokie Roberts was chosen as the recipient of the award. We were tasked with providing an invitation, program book, and signage for the event.

Originally, the concepts for this invitation were more celebratory, reflective of New Orleans culture. When Cokie passed unexpectedly, the decision to turn the event into a tribute honoring her life was incorporated across the materials.

Concept

The design was based off of things that Cokie enjoyed – the city of New Orleans, her favorite flower, and her favorite color. To incorporate the Archives into the design, I built a hand-made vector graphic based off of a relief sculpture on the outside of the building. This design was carried throughout the rest of the event materials, a program book and signage.
